Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident made him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
